Grabbing cranes

The most efficient way to handle large volumes of different bulk materials is by using a grabbing crane.
A typical grabbing crane normally has four four ropes (two holding ropes and two closing ropes).

Different type of cranes

There are many different grabbing cranes and not every grab is suitable for every crane.

The most common grabbing cranes are listed below:
 

• Ship unloaders (gantry cranes)
  Unloaders are normally used for handling very large volumes of bulk materials;
• Mobile harbour cranes (MHC’s)
  Multi purpose (rubber tyred) cranes for bulk handling, break bulk and container handling;
• Floating cranes
  Barge or pontoon mounted cranes, ideal for transhipment or lightening;
• Slewing cranes (jib cranes)
  Fixed or rail mounted cranes with a single jib or double jib (level luffing);
